Contemporary World History Part 2 is an elective course worth 5 credits.
 
Please read all attached files as they appear below throughout the quarter.  New files will be added for each unit as we progress.
 
For each unit of this class you are required to read the article, write a summary, and copy the chapter notes in order to be prepared for the unit exam.  For the unit exam, your job will be to write a short response (at least one half page) that explains the connection between the subject of the unit article and the period from US History that the unit is aligned with.  For example, "What do the Balkans in the 1990s (the subject of the article) have to do with the First World War (US History, Chapter 11).  For each unit exam, I will provide you with a hint that will get you off to a good start.  The way to produce a quality answer is to provide a large amount of historical facts and details as you develop your ideas. 
 
The hint for unit one is:  WWI began in the Balkans.
 
Also, the Geography portion of the class can be understood by opening the file below titled Geography Assignments.  These assignments will be due every two weeks.  There are a total of four geography assignments.

Unit 6 Assignment

Please read all attached files below your first assignment (Unit 1 Assignment - due on 3/27) for Contemporary World History Part 2. Notice, most of these are short instruction sheets, while the file titled "Articles," contains the reading material for the whole quarter.
 
For each unit of this class you are required to read the article, write a summary, and copy the chapter notes in order to be prepared for the unit exam.  For the unit exam, your job will be to write a short response (at least one half page) that explains the connection between the subject of the unit article and the period from US History that the unit is aligned with. 
 
Unit 6 Assignment
After you read the article, "Trump's America: The New Nationalism", write your article summary, and review your chapter notes (VIETNAM LOST and Watergate Nixon CAUGHT); consider the following question for your Unit 6 Exam (one half page response): "What does "The Trump Movement" (the subject of the article) have to do with America during the conflict in Vietnam and the Nixon/Watergate years (US History, Chapter 22 & 24).  As stated in Unit 1, for each unit exam, I will provide you with a hint that will get you off to a good start.  The way to produce a quality answer is to provide a large amount of historical facts and details as you develop your ideas. 
 
The hint for unit six is:  Both the Trump Movement and the Vietnam War/Nixon-Watergate Era involve(d) periods in the United States of great social and cultural divisions among us.  Both eras brought about strong philosophical and ideological differences of opinion within our population which led to social protests, political rallies, and sharp disagreements in politics and the media. Do your best to compare and contrast the two eras - this one may require a full page.
 
Also, Geography Assignment #7 is due on Friday May 8.  Geography Assignment #8 is due on Friday May 22. The Geography portion of the class can be understood by opening the file below your Unit 1 Assignment titled Geography Assignments.  These assignments will be due every two weeks.  There are a total of four geography assignments for the quarter.

After you read the article, "Race Relations in America: Chasing the Dream," write your article summary, and review your chapter notes (CAMELOT, ML.KING); consider the following question for your Unit 5 Exam (one half page response): "What does "race relations in the early 21st century" (the subject of the article) have to do with America during the Kennedy years and the Civil Rights Movement (US History, Chapter 20 & 21).  As stated in Unit 1, for each unit exam, I will provide you with a hint that will get you off to a good start.  The way to produce a quality answer is to provide a large amount of historical facts and details as you develop your ideas. 
 
The hint for unit five is:  This unit, as you can probably tell, does not really require a hint to connect the subjects because the unit covers the same subject: civil rights/racial equality "before and after", or "then and now."  Therefore, the best way to approach your one half page response would be to summarize the before/then, the after/now, and state your opinion on the degree to which equality has been achieved.

After you read the article, "The Rise of ISIS", write your article summary, and review your chapter notes (BIG MTN); consider the following question for your Unit 4 Exam (one half page response): "What does "The Rise of ISIS" (the subject of the article) have to do with America during the Early Cold War (US History, Chapter 18 & 19).  As stated in Unit 1, for each unit exam, I will provide you with a hint that will get you off to a good start.  The way to produce a quality answer is to provide a large amount of historical facts and details as you develop your ideas. 
 
The hint for unit four is:  Both the Cold War and the War on Terrorism involve(d) the United States confronting a very dangerous ideological, international enemy (Compare and Contrast the two).

The hint for unit three is:  The government of the United States experienced a great expansion of power and influence as a result of WWII and will also expand its scope and influence under the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obamacare).

The hint for unit two is:  Consider the similarities and differences between the attitudes and behaviors of the 1960s with the attitudes and behaviors of the 1920s and 30s.
